Abstract
A study in timeless songwriting: Each song incorporates elements from a specific subgenre and era of the singer-songwriter tradition. The songs are ordered chronologically by primary influence: the first song draws on '60s rock, the second on '70s folk, and so on. All songs also use jazz-inspired musicianship (heavily modal harmony, odd time signatures) in often-subtle ways, and prosodic found sounds are heavily featured as well. The central mission of the project was that all of the complex elements had to be at service of the song rather than overshadowing it. The idea behind the project was to study music that's transcended its era with the hopes of creating something that did the same.
