Berklee Intersectional Soundbox Archive

The Berklee Intersectional Soundbox Archive (BISA) is a project dedicated to celebrating voices, compositions, stories, and sound-based expressions through recording sessions and workshops, highlighting a wide range of musical traditions and culture, especially of Indigenous roots.

In these REMIX collections, you will find the completed sample packs created as part of this project. There are currently five main collection areas to explore: Middle Eastern Percussion, Chinese Erhu, Persian Tar, and Peruvian Quena, along with a Native story (snippet) and Native Flute sounds by Tchin. Click through to specific pages to browse sounds from different collections or use the search bar on the left-hand side of the page. These sounds are accessible for all under a CC BY License.

BISA is a collaborative project led by Jimmy Lim, Jennifer Hruska, Michele Darling (Berklee College of Music), Michi Wiancko (Boston Conservatory at Berklee), and Xenia Rubinos (Berklee NYC). The project was made by possible through a Berklee Inclusive Teaching and Learning Grant and the support of the Office of Faculty Development, especially Roya Hu and Ashley Macchia. Additional thanks to Rob Jaczko (Chair, Music Production & Engingeering) and Dan Thompson, (Assistant Chair, Music Production & Engineering).
