Tonina Saputo, "Como Yo"

Episode Guest

Tonina Saputo

Episode Description

It’s been a big year for singer and bassist Tonina Saputo. From St. Louis, Missouri, Saputo is a professional music major at Berklee as well as one of the Mediterranean Music Institute’s emerging artists. In 2016, she was a featured vocalist on the MMI project Refugio del Sonido (Refuge of Sound), spearheaded by Javier Limón, Grammy-winning producer and MMI artistic director. That October, she performed songs from the project at Limón’s sold-out concert at the National Auditorium of Music in Madrid.

Last month Saputo’s career got another major boost when she was selected as one of the first three emerging artists in Univision’s U-LAB project, which provides young musicians with artistic instruction and direction while also leveraging Univision properties to distribute their music.

In addition to these projects, Saputo is working on her first album, and on March 30, she and her band will perform at the prestigious Ellas Crean Festival in Madrid, organized by Spain’s Institute for Women and Equal Opportunities, which promotes women artists and young female talent.

Let’s take a listen to one of the songs she’ll be singing at the festival. From her upcoming first album, here's "Como Yo."
