Episode Description
Musicians and college students both face pressures and challenges that can have a serious impact on their mental health. For Berklee students, who are juggling the demands of craft and class, those challenges can feel especially daunting.
Ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week in October, we sat down with Leah Driscoll, Berklee's director of health and wellness programs in Student Wellness Promotion and Services, and songwriting major Lyzz Zinn for a conversation about mental health for musicians. We talk about the importance of nutrition and sleep; the potential impact of meditation, yoga, and other practices; and resources available on campus for Berklee students.
Driscoll emphasized several dimensions of wellness: physical, mental, emotional, and financial. As Berklee focuses more efforts on its Thrive initiative—a new strategic direction emphasizing student success, affordability, and career preparation as Berklee's top priorities—mental health remains an important part of the discussion of student well-being.
