Dalaun Gets Vulnerable on Debut Single 'Beggin'
Episode Description
Jordan Holly B.M. '17 never planned on a career in music. It wasn’t until after high school, when her a cappella group was featured on NBC’s The Sing-Off, that she realized music could be more than a hobby. Still, it took a year at UC Riverside studying political science to realize how deeply music had taken root.
In 2014, she transferred to Berklee. She majored in music business, managed the college's award-winning a cappella group Pitch Slapped, and developed acts for major festivals as a member of the Berklee Popular Music Institute. After three years at Berklee helping others hone their talents, she decided it was time to focus on her own.
On “Beggin,’” her first single under the stage name Dalaun, she sings with the laid-back confidence of a seasoned R&B star over a mid-tempo beat, smooth guitar riffs, booming bass, and lush harmonies. The lyrics capture a vulnerable moment in a relationship. But on the chorus, when Dalaun pleads, “please be patient with me,” she just as easily could be talking about the long road that led to this moment in her budding musical career.
Dalaun performs at BAMS Festival, presented in partnership with Berklee, on Saturday, June 22, at Playstead Field at Boston’s historic Franklin Park.
