Abstract
The purpose of my project is to demonstrate the combination of elements from jazz and hip-hop music with electronic music production in a live performance setting. To accomplish this, I utilized typical modern jazz harmony, blended with hip-hop and RnB melodies and grooves, and then used a foot controller and in-ear monitoring systems in order to utilize Ableton Live as anyone would utilize an instrument for their craft. The end result of my work is 6 tracks that display the unison of these elements together, in a way that makes a three- to four-piece band sound larger than it ever could acoustically. My goal is to present this music to the electronic music community to expose them to jazz music enough to make them interested in more jazz music; and conversely to present the music to the jazz community to expose them to the vast possibilities of electronic, and in turn make them interested in forms of electronic music that go far past their premade misconceptions of one of the largest genres currently expanding in the music scene today.
