Abstract

In order to help fulfill the goal of developing as a bandleader, this reflective paper will seek to ascertain answers to mainly four questions: What gives one the right to be a leader? Can good leadership be boiled down to one trait? At what level do tonal hearing, tonal theory, and notation reading need to be developed for an individual to be a leader? What is the path that non-pitched instrumentalists should take to progress as leaders?
