Abstract

This culminating experience explores the relationship between live performance and studio production through a series of original songs developed during my master’s studies at Berklee College of Music. The project focuses on how music changes when moving between the stage and the recording studio, and how different artistic and technical decisions influence the final result. The research combines case studies of selected artists with practical experimentation through my own compositions. Some songs began as live performances and were later adapted for studio recording, while others originated in the studio and were subsequently explored in live settings. Throughout the process, I worked with different musicians, producers, arrangers, and engineers, gaining experience in songwriting, arranging, recording, production, and performance. By comparing different versions of the same songs, I explored questions of authenticity, collaboration, arrangement, sound design, and the balance between acoustic and electronic elements. The project documents not only the development of individual compositions but also my own growth as a songwriter, performer, and producer. Ultimately, it reflects on the creative possibilities and challenges that arise when music moves between live and recorded environments.
