Abstract
Aahista (Slow Down) is a multidisciplinary creative project exploring music as a vehicle for mindfulness, healing, and empathetic consciousness. Rooted in self-ethnography and performative research, this work responds to the modern conditions of digital isolation and emotional burnout by investigating how strategic musical arrangement can induce states of physical and emotional presence in both performer and listener. The project's methodology combines cross-cultural acoustic instrumentation with hybrid electronic production, weaving Hindustani classical vocal traditions with Western strings, piano, and multilingual songwriting across five original compositions. These pieces are presented alongside an immersive live performance design integrating environmental staging, intentional lighting, and narrative storytelling to cultivate a shared sense of community experience. Sustaining genuine presence within a high-pressure academic environment emerged as the project's central experiential challenge, mirroring the systemic pressures the work addresses more broadly. The project demonstrates that a disciplined practice of artistic mindfulness can transform both the creator's process and the conventional concert environment into a reflective space, offering a replicable framework for musicians seeking to leverage hybrid production and immersive performance to deepen human connection through their art.
