Abstract

This project presents my first original studio album, marking a significant milestone in my artistic development as a singer-songwriter, recording artist, and music producer. The album represents the culmination of years of musical training and creative exploration, combining my classical foundation with a deep study of African American root music traditions, including Soul, R&B, Gospel, Blues, and Funk Fusion. Rather than imitating these musical styles, this project reflects my effort to understand, internalize, and reinterpret their musical language through my own artistic perspective. Each composition explores a different aspect of groove, harmony, vocal expression, and storytelling while maintaining a unified artistic identity. Throughout the production process, I collaborated with musicians from diverse cultural and musical backgrounds, allowing the arrangements and performances to be shaped by collective creativity as well as my own artistic vision. Beyond serving as an academic capstone, this album is intended to become the foundation of my professional career. It represents the artistic statement I hope will introduce me to audiences in both China and the international music community. More importantly, it embodies the knowledge, musicianship, and artistic growth I gained during my year at Berklee College of Music. Through this project, I aim to share my musical voice, communicate my artistic identity, and create music that resonates across cultures.
