Abstract
Over the course of nine months, Fiona Leila Wicht (the “author”) worked on a two-part Culminating Experience (“CE”). The author’s CE consists of five tracks, each of which explores one or more of the following seven sonic attributes: authenticity, realism, novelty, melody, lyrics, rhythm and timbre. These dimensions make up one’s listener profile, as outlined in Susan Rogers and Ogi Ogas’ book This is what it sounds like: What the music you love says about you1. Through producing five tracks in the context of the seven dimensions, the author analyzed her sonic preferences and subsequently reproduced them through her own productions. The author was in parallel uncovering her listener profile while attempting to reproduce it, which proved challenging. Having now a clear understanding of her seven dimensions, the author shall be able to apply her learnings to future productions with more clarity. The author then performed her five tracks as a live DJ set accompanied by her colleague Shabnam Kermani’s visuals.
