Abstract
In Event of Moon Disaster is an ungiven speech discovered in the Nixon archives 30 years after the historic moon landing. This was the speech he would have given had the mission failed. Had Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin not been able to return to Michael Collins orbiting the moon, they would have had to starve to death or commit suicide in space. William Safire, the speechwriter, had not intended to write this version, until a NASA liaison for the White House told him he needed to do it for the “widows-to-be”.
