Abstract
This project is designed to combine the schools of film theory and musical composition to produce a high caliber score to be recorded with a full orchestra in the prestigious Air Studios in London, UK. My chosen scene to score from the TV series Sacred Lies, is thoroughly dissected from multiple perspectives to understand how to apply compositional techniques to visual concepts such as cinematography and editing. I then document the complex process of realizing the score: composing the thematic material, syncing to picture, producing a professional mockup, orchestrating, recording in London, and mixing the final project. The goal of this thesis is to utilize what I have learned via my documented experiences with this project to offer a roadmap which can be used by anyone to approach scoring for nearly any dramatic project. It is my hope that this project offers a fresh perspective and passion for storytelling to any artist who should encounter it.
