Abstract
My aim for this project was to demonstrate and apply the knowledge and skills I have gained during my year at Berklee Valencia. This paper explores the process of writing a film score and documents my musical journey through the composition of Oben. The aims of my paper are to analyse the narrative inspiration, identify the musical choices, and discuss the recording process that took place at AIR Studios. The goal of this project was to create a composition that accurately reflected my style as a composer. After months of searching for a film to inspire my final piece, I choose to compose the score for the short animation “Oben”. The film's recurrent themes of hope, loss, endurance, and desperation resonated strongly with my initial objectives. This thesis marks the culmination of my extensive musical journey and acts as a stepping-stone toward professional practice.
