Abstract

This project represents and immortalizes everything learned during this year in the Master's in Scoring for Film, TV, and Video Games at Berklee Valencia, thus constituting the culminating experience of my academic development. This thesis investigates and goes deeply into the process of creating, preparing and recording an original re-score of a self-made edit of Le Ballon Rouge, a French short film directed by Albert Lamorisse. This movie, from 1951, became a reference to poetic language in films, and still remains an inspiration for contemporary cinema nowadays. The compositional process drives the audience along the narrative arc, working with different emotional stages and musical ideas throughout the visual piece. In the following paragraphs we are going to go deep into the details of the different stages, from the initial ideas to the polishing touches. This thesis will be talking about musical, technical, technological and theoretical aspects of the process of composing. recording, editing and mixing a cinematic cue. Starting in December, when the researching and networking process to find the movie begun, until June, when the mixing and mastering stage ended.
