Abstract
At the 2009 AMS Annual Meeting, William Drabkin (University of Southampton) presented his own composition of a first movement for Haydn's incomplete String Quartet, Op. 103. In this paper, Drabkin explains how he completed the quartet by writing a finale based on the fugue subject from a contemporary solo violin piece, and on the opening bars of Haydn's own partsong Der Greis.
