Abstract

Discusses an assessment model for music therapy for clients suffering from dementia. The assessment model includes: (1) musical activities, dealing with the demented client's participation in the activities of the music therapy session; (2) motor activities and quality, dealing with functions that are usually being affected by dementia such as muscular stiffness, shivering, dull facial expression, and reduced walking ability; (3) clients' emotional level during music therapy; (4) the reduction of cognitive and mental functioning; (5) attention and contact, including the awareness that demented individuals are being treated with psychoactive drugs; and (6) client reactions.
