Abstract
How We Feel: A Memory Play performed by rapper YG is a theatrical reimagining of a live festival set, rooted in truth-telling, memory, and transformation. Presented as part of music festival set, this performance uses YG’s discography to tell a personal and political story. Tracing his journey from boyhood to the man he is now. Inspired by his recent single 2004, where he opens up about surviving childhood sexual assault, this show breaks silence around trauma, masculinity, and identity. The stage is designed with a raised platform where YG performs above a cast of dancers and actors who reenact his memories below. Through cinematic visuals, lighting, and choreography, the show blurs the line between concert and memory play. This is a call to protect our boys, to tell the truth, and to redefine what vulnerability can look like in hip hop.
