Abstract
This research presents a reflective and analytical account of discovering my artistic identity as a drummer and composer. The study traces a clear trajectory beginning with my original compositions, which emphasize a strong engagement with Brazilian rhythms and progressive music. Through a combination of observational models and performative research, I explore the adaptation of traditional Brazilian rhythmic structures into odd time signatures, establishing them as the primary rhythmic foundation of my work which has an approach stylistically informed by progressive rock, jazz fusion, and the Canterbury scene. This process culminates in the creation of a methodological framework for translating traditional binary rhythms into patterns within odd time signatures, grounded in the use of diverse ostinato structures. While this method emerges from my cultural background and personal artistic practice, its broader objective - and that of the research as a whole - is to illuminate new pedagogical and creative pathways. It aims to support students in developing fluency within odd time signature grooves and to encourage the creation of new musical ideas through the reinterpretation of traditional rhythmic materials and its application to more diverse contexts.
