How Oppression Influenced the Music We Know Today

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to investigate how deeply oppression and discrimination affected music throughout the years. The study first approaches the definitions of the topics, while questioning whether there it influenced and how the music scene in diverse countries. Next, the research aims to examine whether there is any relationship rhythmically speaking and the level of oppression in different cultures. The study also seeks to understand if dictatorship and censorship also influenced the musical path of the time and in which sense it’s different from oppression and discrimination. Another central point of the work is the association of this research with what I do as an artist and what I want to do in the future regarding these subjects. Finally, the investigation addresses a matter that it’s still a relevant topic nowadays defending minorities that faced barriers and are still fighting for their place in the music industry.
