Abstract
Cosmic Quiet is a virtual comic book prototyped and scored by the author. The narrative spans the Black diaspora, analyzing Black music in relation to American blackness and its role in global marginalization and cultural identity.
Participating in any artistic lineage requires study and respect for those in the field that have come before. The author’s educational background is in jazz studies, so researching afrofuturism and visual art was an important part of this endeavor. The biggest challenge faced by the author was prototyping in Unity. Eventually, the author transitioned from focusing on the interactive prototype to focusing on Midjourney renderings, the script, and the soundtrack.
Hopefully there is a future for this project in terms of possibly developing a series of interactive comics and different iterations of the concept in different mediums such as interactive exhibits, physical comic books, and a film series.
