Abstract
“Spacewalk” is taken from the movie Passengers (2016). Directed by Morten Tyldum and written by Jon Spaihts, with the original music composed by Thomas Newman, the film didn't receive significant critical acclaim or perform as well at the box office, which, in my opinion, didn't reflect the impact it deserved. Falling under the genres of romance, drama, and science fiction, these elements immediately pique my interest. I sought to not only create new music but also extract a concept from the film's storyline to express my personal musical ideas for the final project. The decision to record the music at London's AIR Studios with a full symphony orchestra greatly influenced the creation of the music. In my discussion, I will delve into the selection of the scene, musical ideas, and the compositional process, as well as the preparation of the score, the experience of recording and post-production. Finally, I will explore the art of self-compromise.
