Abstract
A figure can represent many things. Beyond being a number, a figure can be an outline or a shape. As people, we can use figure of speech to help us communicate. We can strive to discover, understand and figure things out. Most importantly, a figure embodies a human being. Andrew Riezebeek’s debut EP “Figures:” (released under the moniker Mannahatta), is a study of important people in his life. It has served as a mirror for Andrew to delve deeper into his own being by reflecting on others. Beyond the project’s self-reflective nature, it has also gained a purpose in allowing Andrew to experience the artistic process from the artist’s perspective. It has become a gateway into developing a deeper level of empathy for his loved ones, while simultaneously strengthening his understanding of what it means to be an artist.
