Abstract
Ever been to a Caribbean island before? No need to worry, Milo Strings’ CE ‘Welcome To Island Pop’ will take you there. Before the journey gets started, there are some terms you should know. 1) Soca - Popular music from Trinidad and Tobago. Very vibrant and energetic, mainly for Caribbean people to listen through as they parade the streets during the Carnival celebrations. 2) Calypso - The predecessor to Soca music. Calypso has a rich history in Trinidad and Tobago as being the main genre of the islands with its political topics and inviting bass and brass section lines. 3) Reggae - Jamaica’s contribution to world music. Popularized by Bob Marley in the 1970’s, It is known for its very dynamic bass lines and chill aura. Now that these terms have been established, one can now experience the Island Pop movement as presented by Milo Strings This culminating experience mixes the island sounds of Caribbean music, fusing it with American songwriting styles. This creates the perfect collaborative culminating experience where the listener feels like they are transported to a beautiful Caribbean island!
