Abstract
In recent years, the Latin American music industry has demonstrated a significant capacity for exporting talent, with numerous artists achieving international recognition and success. However, this success is often concentrated within a few key countries: Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, and Puerto Rico. These nations have developed a strong music industry that effectively nurtures and promotes their artists, allowing them to reach a global audience. In contrast, the Ecuadorian music industry has struggled to achieve similar levels of recognition and success. This paper investigates the current state of the Ecuadorian music industry and identifies the key factor necessities for it to develop and to mirror the accomplishments of its neighboring countries.
This paper intends to present the origin of the Ecuadorian music industry landscape, how it has been developing in the current years and pinpointing its weakness and how the infrastructure could be improved. In order to explain the context of this topic, the paper evaluates past and present issues in the industry while highlighting specific areas and categories. Research was conducted through secondary articles, primary interviews, data recollection and a survey.
More specifically, interviews were with music industry professionals to understand the different areas and where we can find the gaps and inconsistencies. The paper also reviews a survey conducted to Ecuadorians to identify if it's only a domestic market problem or international.
Lastly, it concludes with overall insights, possible action plans, and next steps for research.
