  • VERY MUCH: A Poppy Hyperfolk Extended Play by Michael Schulz

VERY MUCH: A Poppy Hyperfolk Extended Play

    Michael Schulz
    2025

Michael Schulz is a Brooklyn based songwriter, producer, and artist going by the name michael MARCEL michael. He draws from his background in live performance - particularly musical theatre, folk music, and storytelling - and mashes it with his more recent passion in electronic production to form his unique cohesive sound, which he has penned ‘poppy hyperfolk’. This unique cohesive sound is defined by thoughtful and intentional juxtaposition. It is minimal and heavy processing. It is vulnerability and hiding under the veneer of digital affectation. michael MARCEL michael uses this unique cohesive sound to craft this project which is the culmination of his experience at BerkleeNYC. The project took the shape of a five track extended play titled VERY MUCH, where he draws on experiences and blends them with fiction to create a world of his own in its tight, roughly 15 minute runtime. michael MARCEL michael sets out to focus on things felt so immensely that they must be written down in order to process, and he has created a soundscape entirely his own to accompany that.

  • Shooting Star by Laura Song

    Shooting Star

    Laura Song
    2025

“Shooting Star” carries two layers of meaning in this EP. On one hand, it symbolizes the intense, heartfelt love and emotions we experienced in our youth—fleeting yet brilliant, like a meteor streaking across the night sky. On the other hand, it represents memory. Though those moments pass quickly, like shooting stars, they often reappear unexpectedly in the universe, reminding us of familiar feelings deep within. The message of “Shooting Star” is to cherish and document the present moment—to fully feel it without becoming attached to outcomes or chasing permanence. In this project, Laura takes on the role of producer for the first time, independently completing the production of all five tracks. Blending elements of pop, electronic, and R&B, the songs aim to create a dark yet cozy atmosphere—something to listen to when you're alone. The overall sound is warm and lo-fi, offering an intimate, immersive listening experience. This EP marks Laura’s official debut as both an artist and a producer. It is the beginning of a brand-new chapter.

  • Back to Blue by Thomas Steil

    Back to Blue

    Thomas Steil
    2025

Back to Blue is a five-song EP developed as my Culminating Experience at BerkleeNYC to explore emotional and existential unrest through a genre I define as Cine-folk, a blend of cinematic textures and folk songwriting. This project was motivated by a need to process personal and collective uncertainty while clarifying my artistic identity and establishing a foundation for sustainable creative work. Each track confronts a different internal tension, from spiritual doubt to societal anxiety, tied together by a cohesive sonic and emotional arc. Throughout the year, I wrote, arranged, produced, recorded, and mixed the EP, collaborating closely with violinist Keris Choi and drawing from coursework in production, mixing, engineering, and visual media. I recorded over 700 violin layers and used Pro Tools and analog gear to create an intimate yet expansive sound marked by ambient imperfections and emotional grandeur. This process helped me define my Unique Cohesive Sound, develop fluency in studio workflows, and grow from a songwriter into a fully self-sufficient artist. The challenges, technical issues, burnout, and post-grad pressure, became part of the project’s emotional core. Back to Blue stands as both a personal reflection and a professional launchpad, signaling the beginning of my career in music.

Arnold believes cinema is “better than real life.” Marlise has become the role the studio cast her in; perfect, glamorous, and utterly manufactured. But when the lights fade and the set collapses, what’s left? As their lives unravel, they must confront the truth behind the camera, and decide whether to run from it or finally let it in. Would they rather live the truth, or a technicolor lie?

  • Grave Digger by Jada Young

    Grave Digger

    Jada Young
    2025

‘Grave Digging’ is a personification of self-reflection and introspection. Dig into the dark parts of oneself to carve out and make amends with them. This gave life to Grave Digger, a sonic soundscape that coincided with poetry to open the audience's psyche and encourage them to critically think about believing in themselves. The theme of burial creates a haunting atmosphere to the project, which is why it is a mixture of Heavy Metal and Hip-Hop. Also, those two genres have a grunge and captivating way of getting messages across. Hip-Hop is the lyrical aspect, and Heavy Metal is the world-building, spooky aspect. Inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the reality that to grow the dark parts of themself, they have to explore and “dig” it up. The purpose of ‘Grave Digger’ stemmed from the thought process of underrepresented communities, such as BIPOC and LGBTQ+, not having an open forum to speak about self-reflection and introspection.

  • Elysium by Juan Acosta

    Elysium

    Juan Acosta
    2024

Elysium is an immersive art installation based on the premise of what happens after death, where the viewers themselves become the main performers through visual content that is also motion reactive. The installation takes the viewers into a journey that consists of three stages: The first one takes place in front of the LED screen, where a short compilation of abstract 3D videos will be projected to provide context for the viewers as to what to expect from the art installation. The second stage consists of three forty-five-degree square-shaped acrylics that will work as a pepper’s ghost canvas for the audience’s self. On these canvases, random ghostly abstract shapes in motion will be projected, and ethereal surround sound will accompany them. Cameras will be put behind each of the pepper’s ghost to capture the movements of the viewers, which will later be translated into reactive imagery of themselves, triggered by Touch Designer, and onto the acrylic canvas; at this stage the people will find the afterlife state. In the third and final stage, once the viewers leave the exhibit, they will go back to the LED screen zone, where they will see abstract images to close the journey.

  • Psych Beach Funk by Owen Braithwaite

    Psych Beach Funk

    Owen Braithwaite
    2024

The beach holds a timeless and rejuvenating energy for many people. Seemingly untouched by the modernization of the rest of the world, the shore has been a constant near- paradise for centuries. There’s great power in the blankness of endless sand dunes, which acts as a foil to the visual and mental frenzy imbued in cities, as well as the vast and unforgiving ocean, which can be both soothing and turbulent. The place where sand meets water can serve as a cleansing haven during life’s big transition points, with its natural simplicity encouraging one to reflect with a newfound clarity. In its worry-free environment, the beach can also spur unbridled joy and enthusiasm. With a massive sandbox terrain for people to play, as well as a relentless barrage of ocean waves to combat, the beach is a setting for exciting activity. There’s a strong lack of inhibition that develops at the beach, allowing people to fully express their desires and passions. “Enchanté” is a 9-track album that explores the mysterious and influential effect that the beach has over people’s emotions, ranging from maniacally energetic to meditatively peaceful. Drawing musical inspiration from funk, R&B, soul, surf rock, and psych rock, “Enchanté” emerges in a new genre, dubbed “Psych Beach Funk”. This is the second project released under Owen’s artist name Momo Chapin, pivoting towards a groovier and more hypnotic sound in his catalogue.
