  • Girls like me by Qi Liao

    Girls like me

    Qi Liao
    2025

The Girls Like Me EP tells the story of Qi Liao — and girls like her — who grew up in East Asian societies shaped by patriarchal narratives. For many of us, womanhood is defined and disciplined by external expectations, and our coming-of-age stories are often intertwined with both the joys and struggles unique to the female experience. Using a relationship as the narrative framework, Girls Like Me portrays the awakening of female subjectivity and self-awareness. This is where the EP’s uniqueness lies: through surprising contrasts, ever-shifting styles, and diverse, innovative production ideas, it offers a multifaceted exploration of identity. Every song is a reflection of the complex emotional landscapes of girls like Qi Liao, turning personal stories into a universal resonance.

  • VividLY by Alexis Lin

    VividLY

    Alexis Lin
    2025

This project aims to develop a cohesive artistic identity through the lens of creative output and strategic presentation. Centered around the release of a six-part Alternative R&B song series titled VividLY, the project explores how consistent sonic and visual branding can enhance audience engagement and long-term recognition. Each song release includes multiple forms of media content—such as beat breakdowns, lyric videos, and behind-the-scenes footage—to offer immersive entry points into the artist’s world. A distinct color palette and graphic language were used to shape the visual identity, while customized music production techniques helped establish a signature sound characterized by aggressive synth bass and soft, emotionally rich vocals. The structure of the release plan draws inspiration from marketing frameworks and personal narrative arcs, using bi-monthly drops to gradually build momentum and deepen listener connection. One of the primary challenges was balancing artistic integrity with marketing clarity across platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and NetEase Music. Ultimately, this project offers a replicable model for independent artists aiming to build an intentional, scalable music brand that spans audio, video, and social media formats.

  • Resilience + Evolution by Evan Lin

    Resilience + Evolution

    Evan Lin
    2025

The project has a very personal meaning and is called Resilience + Evolution. My ability to stay focused, keep moving forward, and never give up in the face of extreme academic pressure at Berklee NYC is exemplified by the word resilience. Evolution, however, stands for my deliberate choice to venture outside my comfort zone. My objective was very obvious when I arrived to Berklee NYC: to develop into a well-rounded musician, composer, and producer who could contribute to a variety of musical genres and creative processes. I wanted to go beyond the limits of my symphonic and classical training and effortlessly incorporate them with pop instruments, electronic textures, or cutting-edge production methods.

  • Awakening by Yujiang Liu

    Awakening

    Yujiang Liu
    2025

Awakening is a five-song original composition project fusing electronic pop and melodic dubstep sounds for the purpose of describing emotional states, individual rebirth, and cinematic narrative. Influenced by the soundscapes of Seven Lions and Far Out, the project merges rich synthesizer timbres, expressively-treated vocals, orchestral timbre, and aggressive bass for the purpose of developing rich soundscapes. Each song embodies a distinct emotional phase—varying from vulnerability and personal struggle to clarity and catharsis—corresponding with the process of waking up to one's true self. The production process entailed crafting distinct soundscapes using analog synths and multi-layered vocal textures, with the goal of providing simultaneous musical impact and emotional profundity. Visual supplements like the Journey Video and the Long Form Video complement the storytelling by sharing the technical process and creative intent behind the music. Awakening serves as a culmination of my studies at Berklee NYC, representing not only technical and compositional growth but also a deepened personal voice as an electronic music artist.

  • Garden of the Asylum by Yu Li

    Garden of the Asylum

    Yu Li
    2025

Garden of the Asylum is a multi-disciplinary live music performance that merges music and visual storytelling. More than a tribute to Van Gogh’s art, it is an exploration of art, emotion, and the human psyche. As co-producers, we draw inspiration from Van Gogh’s emotional world, using music to retell his passion for artistic expression and the strong emotions that shaped his artworks and continue to resonate today. In an era of rapid change, more people experience similar psychological states. Through this performance, we seek to build a bridge where audiences do not merely observe art but engage with it on a personal level—seeing their own emotions reflected and experiencing how art becomes a medium for emotional connection and self-exploration. Using a garden as a metaphor, we envision Van Gogh’s emotions blooming like flowers in his mental landscape, taking form through music, visuals, and lighting. The performance unfolds in three interconnected movements—Solitude, Self-Doubt, and Paranoia—each led by a musician (JOSEPH, Jilly!, and Kéquetz) whose original compositions not only interpret Van Gogh’s emotions but also reflect their own artistic and personal experiences. Each section begins with a visual or soundscape piece, serving as a transition that immerses the audience in the upcoming emotional state. The stage design integrates scrim projection, multi-layer lighting, and immersive soundscape, enhancing the emotional depth of the performance.

  • Azúcar, flores y muchos colores by Fernanda Macias

    Azúcar, flores y muchos colores

    Fernanda Macias
    2025

Azúcar, Flores y Muchos Colores (Sugar, Flowers, and Lots of Colors) was born from the romanticization of being a woman in her twenties—someone who has already experienced love, loss, friendships, and everything in between. The project explores how these feelings shape individuals as they grow up—sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. It embraces the blurry lines between emotions and celebrates the complexity of feeling everything fully. For María Fernanda, expressing femininity through songwriting and production was central. After holding on to these emotions for so long, turning them into a 5-song EP during her time at Berklee felt both fresh and liberating. She believes that everyone is made of both their best and worst parts—and that embracing all aspects of oneself is essential. This project blends the intensity of reggaeton and urban rhythms with the silkiness of R&B, creating a contrast that mirrors her growth as a producer and songwriter deeply in touch with her emotions.

  • Stronger Feelings by Jillian Matje

    Stronger Feelings

    Jillian Matje
    2025

Self-described as “goofy slut-rock,” Jilly both pulls at the heartstrings and keeps a conversational, high-energy vibe. With female and queer storytelling at the forefront, Jilly strives to merge the bright, energetic drive of punk-rock with the general digestibility, lyrical sensibility, and catchy melodies of pop. Consisting of two heart-wrenching breakup ballads, one cheeky hookup banger, one adrenaline-fueled introspection, and a half-breakup/half-hookup single, Stronger Feelings explores Jilly’s favorite emotions. From heartbreak and novelty to wild stories and self-indulgences, this EP takes the listener on a rollercoaster of ups, downs, and loop-de-loops via interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships.

  • Karrion (Looking at Faces) by Mac McCann

    Karrion (Looking at Faces)

    Mac McCann
    2025

Before coming to Berklee, I didn’t have a very strong musical identity or personal brand. I had just left my job as a programmer and my indie band in San Francisco to move to New York, and I had only released two songs as my EDM artist project, Karrion. This past year at BerkleeNYC has been a huge transformation. I went from feeling unsure of what I wanted to do with my music to building a solid foundation as an artist with a unique sound and a vision for the future. I’m really proud of the six singles I created for my CE Project, which I grouped together as an EP called Looking at Faces, although I plan to release them only as standalone singles that all fit within my sound.

Navigating Americana, Shoegaze, Country, Folk and Alternative throughout 8 songs, When I Think Of May effortlessly marries these otherwise distant styles, and captures all the emotions of Connor’s tumultuous last year, from elation, joy and boundless youth, to homesickness, longing, sadness, and isolation.

  • Off Script by Lauren Mian

    Off Script

    Lauren Mian
    2025

To go “off script” is to deviate from a prepared text, plan, or set of instructions. It means for something to not behave or happen as expected as planned. Thus far in Lauren’s life, everything has for the most part stuck to the script. From elementary school through undergraduate studies, Lauren has yet to skip a beat. But for the first time in her life, through her time at Berklee NYC, Lauren has learned to go off script both as an artist, songwriter, and producer but also as an individual. Lauren’s Culminating Experience at Berklee NYC entails a year-long process of exploration in new sonic soundscapes, storytelling, and production tools. This work’s purpose is to debut Lauren’s skills in production and mixing, while elevating her already established voice as an alternative folk songwriter, vocalist, instrumentalist, and overall artistic identity.

    Positive

    Sean Ng
    2025

The “Positive” EP is a five-track original music project that explores the concept of holistic health through storytelling and sound. It draws from Sean’s background as a medical professional to emphasise the importance of physical, mental and emotional health. Each track addresses a different component of well-being, with themes ranging from anxiety and resilience to love and stigma around HIV positivity. Stylistically, the EP blends folk and jazz elements, employing ambient sounds, minimalistic arrangements, and rich vocal layering to deliver a poignant, immersive experience. The work reflects the artist’s newly acquired production skills in mixing, mastering, vocal processing, and media editing, gained during a rigorous academic course. Future plans include a health- themed listening party in Singapore and collaborations with advocacy organizations to extend the work’s social impact.

  • All My Friends by Tim Ogrady Walshe

    All My Friends

    Tim Ogrady Walshe
    2025

This project is an exploration of the Irish folklore/storytelling tradition, channelled through the modern, rebellious and DIY aesthetic of alternative music. All My Friends began as a thought experiment on forging a world of characters, each personifying a different facet of one’s personality. It was a way of creating distance between a writer and his writing, allowing the songs to take on their own lives and be free of the self-consciousness inherent in the documentation of one’s adolescence. Somewhere along the course of this year, this record developed into an exploration of lost youth, mine and those of my closest friends and family. The “Friends” became the keepers of stories of people that I have known, versions of myself, and imagined voices that helped me understand the world around me. Using a combination of traditional folk instruments and modern sounds and techniques, a wide ranging tale was spun, with overarching themes and characters, all brought together but a singular voice.

  • The Boy My Momma Raised by Daniel Oh

    The Boy My Momma Raised

    Daniel Oh
    2025

The Boy My Momma Raised is a project created by Daniel Oh during his time at Berklee NYC that allows the listener to grow with the artist as they traverse it. The choice of the word “Boy” in the title creates a disconnect between the boy Daniel was and the man he has become. This difference in identity from the history of an individual to who they actually are and who they desire to be is the basis for the project. By having a journey for the listener to experience, The Boy My Momma Raised gives the listener a space to accept where they are in life but to experience again their own growth and journey. Depending on what the listener needs, they can sit with a period of their life and grow up at their own pace as they traverse the project.

  • Omstead O's by Jack Omstead

    Omstead O's

    Jack Omstead
    2025

Omstead O’s is a five-song EP created as the Culminating Experience for the Songwriting and Production Master’s Program at BerkleeNYC. Released under Jack Omstead’s artist name and brand, Born Dude, the project fuses playful pop songwriting, emotional storytelling, and a nostalgic-yet-modern sound influenced by early 2010s pop and hip-hop. More than just a musical project, Omstead O’s comes to life through a custom-designed cereal box and cassette tape, forming a tactile, collectible experience. At its core, the project celebrates the joy, curiosity, and excitement often associated with youth. It stands as both a creative milestone and a launchpad for a larger vision where music and branding intersect to evoke real emotion. Over the course of ten months, Jack’s sonic identity took shape through consistent work both inside and outside of class. Nearly 100 songs were worked on during this period, resulting in a confident selection of tracks presented in Omstead O’s. Jack wrote, produced, mixed, and mastered all five songs while also designing the visual and physical components. This hands-on, multi-disciplinary approach allowed him to build a fully realized world around the music. The project showcases Jack’s commitment to storytelling across mediums and lays the foundation for future work that blends sound, design, and identity into a cohesive, immersive experience.

  • Nature's Getaway by Brett Orenstein

    Nature's Getaway

    Brett Orenstein
    2025

Nature’s Getaway is a multi-sensory immersive experience designed to guide participants out of the overwhelming digital world and back into the peaceful rhythm of nature, all while remaining in the city. Set within a carefully constructed indoor forest environment, the installation leads guests on a symbolic journey through four themed zones: the Forest Path, the Campfire Ritual, the Stream Walk, and the Rainroom Exit. Each zone uses light, sound, mist, and interactivity to evoke emotional transitions, from tension to surrender, from chaos to clarity. Guests are invited to place their phones into a symbolic fire, walk alongside a river to release unwanted thoughts, and pass through a veil of rain as a final act of renewal. Drawing on themes of ritual, emotional restoration, and nature simulation, the project serves as a temporary escape from overstimulation and a portal to inner stillness.

  • How We Feel by Choice Plasencia

    How We Feel

    Choice Plasencia
    2025

How We Feel: A Memory Play performed by rapper YG is a theatrical reimagining of a live festival set, rooted in truth-telling, memory, and transformation. Presented as part of music festival set, this performance uses YG’s discography to tell a personal and political story. Tracing his journey from boyhood to the man he is now. Inspired by his recent single 2004, where he opens up about surviving childhood sexual assault, this show breaks silence around trauma, masculinity, and identity. The stage is designed with a raised platform where YG performs above a cast of dancers and actors who reenact his memories below. Through cinematic visuals, lighting, and choreography, the show blurs the line between concert and memory play. This is a call to protect our boys, to tell the truth, and to redefine what vulnerability can look like in hip hop.

  • i think about you even when i'm not thinking by Rodrigo Pliego

i think about you even when i'm not thinking

    Rodrigo Pliego
    2025

i think about you even when i’m not thinking is an eight-track EP created as part of my master’s program at Berklee NYC. Developed independently during a year of emotional transition in New York, the project explores themes of heartbreak, regret, and unresolved emotion through an introspective, lo-fi sonic lens. Rooted in journal entries and spontaneous writing, the songs form a nonlinear emotional narrative, more of a personal archive than a polished resolution. Embracing rawness over perfection, I used atmospheric textures, ambient noise, and fragmented lyrics to reflect emotional fragility and inner conflict. Inspired by artists like Frank Ocean, James Blake, Bon Iver, EDEN, and Joji, the project prioritizes vulnerability and emotional honesty, intentionally leaning into imperfection as a form of expression. Deliverables include the full EP, a music video, and an artist identity package. This work documents not just a creative process, but a personal transformation, illustrating how songwriting and self-production can serve as tools for emotional clarity and human connection.

The NØISE TØUR 2026 is a fully developed touring concept created by Hemeli Ramirez under the artist duo FifteenØeight, designed as a hybrid between immersive storytelling and technical concert production. The show is built around three thematic chapters. The Disconnect, The Journey, and The Future Reimagined, which guide the audience through a powerful experience of self-discovery. • Figures: by Andrew Riezebeek

    Figures:

    Andrew Riezebeek
    2025

A figure can represent many things. Beyond being a number, a figure can be an outline or a shape. As people, we can use figure of speech to help us communicate. We can strive to discover, understand and figure things out. Most importantly, a figure embodies a human being. Andrew Riezebeek’s debut EP “Figures:” (released under the moniker Mannahatta), is a study of important people in his life. It has served as a mirror for Andrew to delve deeper into his own being by reflecting on others. Beyond the project’s self-reflective nature, it has also gained a purpose in allowing Andrew to experience the artistic process from the artist’s perspective. It has become a gateway into developing a deeper level of empathy for his loved ones, while simultaneously strengthening his understanding of what it means to be an artist.
