CE Project
Francisco Rafart
2015My Culminating experience project is a band live performance that features custom made technology and visuals. The musical style is electronic rock and the band features drums, electric guitar, Stick and electronic backing tracks. My purpose with this multi dimensional project was to think of the creation of technology and its use at the same time. This was for a simple reason: Applicability. Whenever we think of innovation we must start from the problem, not the solution. Starting with the need or problem we try to solve is a must for building something useful others can relate to. If we start from the product or a beautiful idea, and then try to find its use, it is much more likely we end up building a gadget or technology that is useless for others.

Blocks: The Journey to Becoming An Artist
Andrew Sweet
2015During this past year at Berklee College of Music Valencia, I have been working on my thesis project, also known as my Culminating Experience. As a producer and DJ, I wanted to tie both of these elements together within the project. Therefore, I chose to do a live performance, as well as compose, produce, and engineer an EP. The third component of my C.E. is a documentary, which highlights the creation process that went on throughout the year as I developed both of these projects.

Chudan-Dojo
Benjamin Zuiderweg
2015For my Culminating Experience, I will be completing my first EP under the moniker Chudan, which translates to middle ground or center of balance. The EP is titled Dojo and contains four tracks. A Dojo is a martial arts training hall dedicated to refinement of the spirit. The EP will be completed on the 28th of June and was presented on June 27th at Club 76. Although not a part of the thesis, I will also release a remix EP shortly after graduation.

Technology in Live Performance: Redefining the Role of the Controller
Misty Jones
2014We live in a time where wearable and mobile technology is on the rise, yet we still see many musicians stuck behind their laptops on stage using more and more pre-produced music. I wanted to innovate something that would inspire musicians to step out from behind their laptops and be mobile and creative in real-time. I built something I've called "The Orbit Suit," which is made out of four Numark Orbit MIDI controllers with the intention of using the suit to perform a song live, while "remixing" an electric guitar as well during the performance.

APP-LICATION OF WHAT I’VE LEARNED IN MTI
Alek Palmersmith
2014My culminating experience is the intersection between iOS app development and music. I have focused on learning to program and design applications, experiencing first-hand what it takes to create an app that looks and feels professional. I will break down my learning process into the main areas of focus, with a particular emphasis on the rapid prototyping of specific features, creating an app-a-day. Although my focus has been more on the learning process, rather than the final product, I do have a number of functional prototypes, with each representing a separate initial exploration of a concept to be further explored. I also explored potential for collaboration with app development through my work with Gerami Groover.

Sonic Scenery: Interactive Storytelling through Sound and Music
Beth Schofield
2014Sonic Scenery is a project exploring interactive storytelling through sound. I am producing a hybrid installation-live performance piece that uses music and technology to take listeners on a journey through emotion from different points of view. Thanks to an invitation to join the Walk to Fisterra team, I took on the Camino de Santiago where I was able to encourage other ‘pilgrims’ to share their experiences. I have produced a 3 movement audiovisual work with the possibility of live performance.

Service, Sacrifice, Salvation
Randy Schroeder
2014Service, Sacrifice, Salvation is a project I created to help bring awareness to issues that directly and indirectly affect United States Veterans. For this project I created an audio visual DJ set that speaks from the point of view of the veterans’. My overall goal is to create a fund generating campaign, that when reached will be used to shoot a movie that directly correlates with the DJ set’s music. Once completed I hope to then sell the movie to help raise money for Veteran’s charities.
